GENE NETWORK SCIENCES AND NOVARTIS TO CO-PRESENT AT CHI’s BEYOND GENOME CONFERENCE ON JUNE 16
ITHACA, NY - June 08, 2005 - Gene Network Sciences (GNS) today announced that CEO Colin Hill will co-present with Dr. Anna Georgieva of Novartis Pharmaceuticals at CHI’s Beyond Genome Conference on Thursday, June 16, 2005. The conference is taking place at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
The GNS/Novartis session, entitled “Computational Methods for Determining Pathways and Biomarkers of Drugs in Clinical Trials,” will demonstrate the utility of using network inference and mechanistic simulations for identifying pathways associated with mechanism of action of various drugs in clinical trials. The presentation includes examples of how Novartis and GNS scientists utilized an inference framework to characterize the molecular pathways affected by a compound of current clinical interest in two different preclinical animal models.
Results of the GNS/Novartis collaboration were also recently detailed in the March 21 issue of FEBS Letters, a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The paper reviewed the two-pronged strategy of inferring biological interactions from large-scale multi-omic measurements and accounting for known biology via mechanistic dynamical simulations of pathways, cells, and organ- and tissue-level models. The GNS/Novartis paper appears in a special systems biology issue (21 March 2005, Vol. 579, Issue 8) available online at http://www.febsletters.org.
About Gene Network Sciences
Founded in August 2000, Gene Network Sciences (www.gnsbiotech.com) is a privately held biotech company headquartered in Ithaca, New York. GNS integrates pre-clinical and clinical data into accurate and robust computer simulations of human cancer cells and the heart. GNS applies these data-driven computer models in drug development alliances with pharmaceutical companies to determine the mechanism of action of new drugs and the associated biomarkers of drug efficacy and toxicity. GNS technology increases clinical trial success rates and helps to bring better drugs to market faster.
