GENE NETWORK SCIENCES QUADRUPLES SIZE OF ITHACA HEADQUARTERS -- Company Announces New Hire, New SAB Members and Growth Plans --
ITHACA, NY - March 25, 2003 - Gene Network Sciences (GNS), a leader in systems biology and cell simulation, has moved into a 13,000-square-foot Warren Road Business Park office more than four times larger than its previous Triphammer Road office space and Cornell Technology Park lab. The new GNS headquarters, located at 31 Dutch Mill Road, house corporate offices and a wet laboratory.
When the company moved into its first office in October 2000, it had five employees. GNS now has 22 full-time workers and plans to grow that number to at least 34 by the end of the year. The company posts job listings on its Web site at www.gnsbiotech.com and invites applicants with experience in mathematics, computation, molecular biology and bioinformatics to apply.
GNS also announced new additions to its team. The company hired Larry Felser as director of systems and software development. In this role, he will oversee the advancement of the GNS integrated platform for cell modeling and simulation. Felser has more than 20 years of software experience, most recently as a software development director at Autodesk, Inc., the world's leading design software and digital content company. At Autodesk, he managed a team of 30 and launched multiple award-winning design and visualization tools.
The company appointed four new members to its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), which has been organized into three groups: Systems Biology, Cancer, and Bacteria and Infectious Disease. John Tyson, a university distinguished professor of molecular cell biology at Virginia Tech and head of the school's computational cell biology laboratory, joined the Systems Biology group. Also joining the Systems Biology team is John Guckenheimer, a professor of mathematics at Cornell University and a pioneer in dynamical systems and chaos theory. New to the SAB's Cancer team is Christoph Lengauer, an assistant professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and director of the Cell Imaging Core Facility of the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. Finally, Mike Shuler, the Samuel B. Eckert Professor of Chemical Engineering and director of the bioengineering program at Cornell University, joins the Bacteria and Infectious Disease group.
