Alan J. Biloski, Ph.D.
Former Managing Dir., Mergers & Acq., Merill Lynch & Co.
As the architect of a number of the pharmaceutical
industry's largest and most visible deals, Alan Biloski
brings a wealth of experience to the GNS Board. During
his three-year tenure at Merrill Lynch from 1998 to
2001, Dr. Biloski advised clients in approximately $100
billion of M&A transactions including Pfizer's
unsolicited bid for Warner Lambert, MedImmune's
acquisition of US Bioscience, and the sale of Mycogen
to Dow Chemical. He counseled Immunex on the largest
biotech equity offering in history. Previously, Dr.
Biloski founded the Healthcare Group at Wasserstein
Perella & Co. where he managed SmithKline Beecham's
acquisition of Sterling Winthrop (the biggest OTC deal
ever) and the sale of Sterling Winthrop North American
to Bayer. The former head of the Healthcare Mergers and
Acquisitions Group at First Boston, Dr. Biloski also
has experience as a venture capitalist with Johnston
Associates, and as a strategic planner with Merck Sharp
and Dohme Research Laboratories. He holds a Ph.D. in
organic chemistry from Cornell University, an M.B.A.
from Columbia University, and a B.S./M.S. in chemistry
from Yale University. He is a visiting professor of
finance at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School
of Management.
Colin Hill
C.E.O., President, Chairman & Co-Founder
Colin Hill brings years of hands-on scientific
experience to his role, with expertise in the areas of
computational physics and systems biology. Hill is a
frequent speaker at international scientific and
industry conferences and has appeared in numerous
publications and television segments including The Wall
Street Journal, CNBC Morning Call, Nature, Wired, and
the Economist. In 2004, Hill was named to MIT
Technology Review's TR100 list of the top innovators in
the world under the age of 35. He graduated from
Virginia Tech with a degree in physics and earned
master's degrees in physics from McGill University and
Cornell University.
Thomas Paul
Former Chief Investment Officer, Fortress Investment Group
While chief investment officer for Fortress
Investment Group, Thomas Paul managed the Drawbridge RV
Plus Fund, which launched in February 2005. From 1996
to 2004, Mr. Paul was a managing director in the Global
Markets Group at Deutsche Bank, where he established a
proprietary relative trading business for Deutsche
Bank. Mr. Paul's most recent position at Deutsche Bank
was as head of Global Rates Risk (GRR), an internal
fund. In addition to managing GRR, Mr. Paul oversaw
Deutsche Bank's exposure to global interest rates as
chairman of the interest rate risk committee. Prior to
joining Deutsche Bank, Mr. Paul traded government bonds
and options for Goldman Sachs & Co. from 1993 to 1996.
Mr. Paul received a S.B. and S.M. in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science from Purdue.
F. Raymond Salemme, Ph.D.
CEO of Redpoint Bio
F. Raymond Salemme brings more than 30 years of
broad biotechnology and entrepreneurial expertise to
GNS. He holds the post of CEO of Redpoint Bio, a
leading biotechnology company developing better tasting
products for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage
industries. He was formerly CEO of of Linguagen Corp.,
the leading developer of all-natural additives that
allow pharmaceutical, food and beverage companies to
improve the taste or potency of their ingredients.
After founding 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals (3DP) in
1993, Dr. Salemme ultimately grew the company to more
than 200 employees and an IPO market capitalization of
more than $330 million. He helped facilitate the
NASDAQ-listed company's sale to Johnson & Johnson in
2003. Prior to 3DP, Dr. Salemme held scientific and
executive roles at Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals,
DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals and Genex Corporation. He
also served as a professor of biochemistry at the
University of Arizona. Dr. Salemme is a member of the
NIST Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology, and
serves on multiple advisory boards, including those of
the NIH National Center for Biotechnology Information
and the Penn State University Nanotechnology Center.
Dr. Salemme holds 21 patents in the areas of
chemoinformatics, computer-directed drug discovery, and
high-throughput thermodynamic screening technology, and
has published more than 80 scientific papers. He
received a Ph.D. in chemistry from U.C. San Diego and
B.A. in molecular biophysics from Yale University.
